Mrs Clayton from the Stonehaven Festival in Scotland placed this report of our concert on the Stonehaven Folk Festival web site.

""On Sunday we went out with an absolute bang with Beggars Row. Their music had the audience bellowing for more.

The fiddler was bouncing all over the stage and jumping up and down into the audience!

The piper then came down and played with him and at the end the whole audience was standing up and screaming for more.

They had to play two encores and by the end of the night they had sold more CDs than any other artist that weekend."

Skagen Festival 2003

"Beggars Row broke the record for Cd sales that had stood for many years. Not only did they break it but they sold twice as many"

Alex Stewart,  Killin Festival, Alex attended and took a part in the Loch Lomond Festival he wrote this report of Beggars Row's performance.

"A late July evening in Balloch, a full house and Beggars Row.

Fresh from successful ventures into Norway, Belgium and Holland, this adventurous group were making a return visit to the Bonny banks.

Having first seen them at the 1999 Callander Festival, I wondered how the band had changed in the last two years.

The opening number, "Glasgow to Moscow", took the audience through a series of changes of tempo, with the Scottish/Russian connection evident.

Then a few well known favorites like "Irish Rover" and "Killiecrankie" were interchanged with slower paced melodies such as "Reconciliation".

In between the combined renditions were semi solo's. Gus led off on fiddle, mingling with the audience, then David, not to be undone, strutted among the seats bringing the Highland Bagpipes among the by now spellbound listeners. Fantastic interpretation by both, ably supported by the rest of the lads.

The interval saw the appreciative crowd rise to their feet, clamoring for more. So to the second half!

A slick formula, new tunes and old kept the audience on their toes and then a change.

David and Gus almost serenading each other, mixing with the crowd, involving them in the tunes, making them feel part of the set. They could not be otherwise with the rest of the band backing the two front men, the tent almost went into orbit!

Let's not forget this group are very versatile, with two singers in Bob and Neil, each taking part of the lead.

Then a change, breaking some may say from the traditional form, a wonderful percussion solo from Colin.

Eventually, the inevitable "Loch Lomond" and the "Mason's Apron" brought their concert to a close, but no!, two encores later Beggars Row ended a memorable evening.

So, what of the verdict?. Everyone I spoke to had nothing but praise for this Tartan clad band.

In my opinion, they have brought a different style to the ever changing Folk Scene, without losing sight of their roots.

With a firm following abroad, I would trust the Scottish Folk Festivals will soon have the lads from Beggars Row in their sights."

Skagen Festival 2003

" I just want to thank you for such a wonderful concert in Skagen. With a hangover and feeling down, I felt such pity for me but then you started playing! It was just so great, I forgot all my (small) troubles for an hour. The audience just loved you and wanted more and more.Come back to Denmark and we will be there."
